As followers of The Lord Jesus Christ, we adhere to the Holy Bible, a collection of 66 books, written by 40 authors across 1500 years. This collection of prophets and authors managed to share a unified message of love, self improvement and salvation by means of the sacrifice of the eternally begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ.
With it being such a large text containing great spiritual mysteries, and multiple forms of interpretation, many of us disagree on what we Christians call 'secondary issues'. These issues are not considered primary issues as no matter what stance you take it doesn't effect our salvation, nor our relationship with God.
So, during the 2nd century the church developed the Apostles Creed, a brief statement summarising our core beliefs. These beliefs unify us as the universal Body of Christ.
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
